Two fourth-year CU Pharmacy students took time out of their rotation in Delta County, Colorado to share pharmacy with hundreds of 8th grade students. Both Anna Allen and Rachel Moore have been on their Block 7 Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experience (APPE) at Cedaredge Pharmacy with Dr. John Breitnauer Jr. (PharmD, BSP) as their preceptor.
As they have been out in the community they have developed a sense of duty to contribute to it, so they decided to be active participants in the Delta County 8th grade Career Fair. Anna and Rachel hosted an interactive lotion compounding activity with the students. They said that the activity was a hit with the students, and it was by far the busiest booth in the room. The attendees really enjoyed asking questions about the career of pharmacy, compounding as if they were pharmacists, and of course, the CU Skaggs School swag items, “Rachel and I had a wonderful time and hope pharmacy students can participate in this event in the future,” said Anna.
More than 300 eighth graders attended the career fair, which was held in Paonia, Colo., on March 14.
